AJ, AJ, AJ. He just took the tap experience up a few notches. He and his partner in crime Carles (one shoots, the other hones) keep outdoing themselves with every photo. Funny thing is, I was in public every time I saw one of their posts. The first two times my jaw dropped (not literally […]

the traveling tap

Last October I got an idea for an Instagram series: send my tapestries to different people around the world to be Instagrammed. Something about the idea of letting go of my work, eventually to total strangers four, five, six degrees separated from me, both enthralled me and terrified me. But I had to let go […]
just not the same without my mac

On October 12th, a little over three weeks before my PGB3 exhibition, my computer fell into a coma. I died. And after that I took it to the Mac doctor who gave me a bleak prognosis: the logic board needs to be replaced, 3-4 weeks. I died again. But like a phoenix (and thanks to […]
a visit from faisal the f

I find superlatives pointless. They’re hyperbolic and highly arguable. But I’m going to say this with complete conviction: Faisal Al Fouzan, aka Faisal the F, is the best Instagrammer this country has to offer. I am, mind you, prepared to be convinced otherwise. I just don’t see it happening. This morning on a visit to […]

I visited Noor Alzabin’s elegant home this morning to take some photos of her new acquisition, my painting ‘Girl Not Alone’. I think, however, I ended up taking more photos of Noor, Lali and their excitable doggy Balthazar!
t-shirts for my upcoming exhibition

I have finally started work on these t-shirts for my next PrettyGreenBullet exhibition in November. This is one, nineteen to go. Initially I wanted to paint twenty-one but have settled on twenty. I’d love to do more but I have to be realistic about time.

This is the progression of my postcards over the past few weeks. And in true Instagram fashion, my feet just had to be in the shots.

My paintings were finally transported to dar.nur this morning. I have to say I was bubbling with energy, really happy they were going to a better place! Be good, girls. I’ll be visiting every now and then x

I have officially started work on my third PrettyGreenBullet exhibition. And a fixture in both previous PGB exhibitions were my postcards. I can’t imagine this one without. I’ve missed doing these. And normally when I miss a certain medium I always start off on a high. Today, I completed four postcards and started work on […]
when your notebook falls apart, you get a surprise like this

I love loose-leaf paper. My triplicate book accidentally ripped down the middle and I took advantage of that little hiccup by tearing the rest of it apart. The drawn-on pages anyway. One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite childhood movies, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, is when Eglantine Price, the apprentice witch, frantically shuffles through […]

As you all know, I like to play. And this is what I do when you give me a set of colored pencils, carbon sheets and tracing graph paper.

what would you take?
Posted on May 24, 2012 Leave a Comment
I’m sure we’ve all been asked this question at one point in our lives: if you were to be stuck on a desert island, what would you take with you? I was sort of in the urban version of that situation this morning: a friend, who is moving and needed to be at work, asked […]
Sadu House } Laila Al-Hamad’s Zeri Crafts
Posted on May 9, 2012 1 Comment
I must admit that I am finding it difficult to get around to visiting galleries. But every now and then, I make the time, like I did this morning. I visited Laila Al-Hamad’s Zeri Crafts exhibition at the Sadu House. I went because Laila spoke to me about her idea to contemporize the sadu (traditional Gulf […]
