Because I didn’t have time in the city, and when I went to Surrey there was no wi-fi, I could not update my blog on a regular basis. I’ve divided this series of posts into six parts: four parts covering my stay in the UK, a Traveling Tap post and a Stories of Eve post. As always it was great to see my friends and visit new places in London. And then a relaxing three days with my brother and his family in Surrey (and an unplanned trip to a town called Rugby). You know I love to use color. This time I challenged myself to stick to blues: prussian, cobalt and ultramarine. I actually enjoyed having a limited color choice and may try this on a larger surface.

the little ones } inspired by a doodle this morning

A few months ago I drew some pictures and called them ‘The Little Ones’ because they’re little. And they’re cute. This morning, instead of cleaning my home I picked up the above piece of paper that I’d used to serve as a masking device for one of my paintings, and I wrote some notes on it. Then I accidentally spilled some oatmeal on it and covered that with pencil and a spirally doodle. Then I drew a face, made a mistake on the nose, colored over it with a white pencil and decided to do the same with the eyes and mouth and got this really cool effect. And then it inspired me to create a few more drawings for ‘The Little Ones’ series.

Sometimes I start a painting and leave it for a while. A few weeks or months later I begin another painting on top of that one, and again I stop. This is my fourth painting on this canvas since April. I had a feeling this one would stick, and it did. I’m very happy with it. Read More

Is it officially a tradition if this is the second time you do something on the anniversary of the last time you did it? Well, I’m going to call it a tradition, just as next Christmas my children and I will have gained a tradition of putting up a Christmas tree, because we put up our first this year. And on that confusing note, I present my favorite fifteen posts~sketchbooks~discoveries~events of 2014. Read More
