sometimes i like to put my paintings in an environment they might be comfortable in

I’m so nearly done with this one, which I started a few weeks ago. I’m just not completely happy with it. One particular companion. I also think that I’ll paint five additional companions on another canvas. I’d like this to be a multi-paneled work. Read More

travel well, girls

My new Instagram friend and collaborator Astrid Walsh and I have a little exchange thing going on. She’s adopted two of my girls, who now live in Cork, Ireland and I just welcomed her two ladies. We’re going to give them a bit of an adventure and hope we-the moms-learn more about each other this way. Fun for us, and I hope you enjoy it too. You can check out Astrid’s work here: astridwalsh.com.

pop-up journal } to home

A few days ago I was asked to be part of a traveling ‘museum’. It was agreed that my contribution to this project would be a specially created journal, something that would fit into the theme of the exhibition. That’s all I can say for now because my proposal hasn’t been approved yet. So for now, I’m doing it for me. Read More

just for fun and curiosity i placed this lady in one of my plant pots a few weeks ago. i decided that she may have had enough of being in the sun surrounded by insects and soil. i laid her in my palm and watered her down. she melded so nicely with my skin and thus the idea was born

A few days ago I was watering my plants and made a nice little discovery. It wasn’t a global discovery, as glue had already been invented. But I found that with just water and tracing paper, I could easily create a physical bond between my girls and flesh-and-blood humans. I tested the first ‘prototype’ on myself and liked the result. So I thought, as always, that I’d get others in on the fun. The first person I thought of was my friend Hala, who has a marvelous face. I Whatsapp-ed her a succinct (and apparently innuendo-charged) message: I need your face. I prepared the girls and took them over to Hala’s this morning. It was only when I took a photo of her punch-me-in-the-face-now-gorgeous daughter Kiki that the girls resembled bumblebees. Hence the title of this series. I think I’m going to have a LOT of fun with this project. And I hope you enjoy it too.

the girls hanging in the lobby of the four seasons hotel in bangkok

I am so excited about my girls visiting Ireland and Thailand with my friend Nelli. She’s done an amazing job of taking care of them. I don’t think she realizes how happy her photos have made me. Note: Nelli doesn’t have Instagram so I took the liberty of Instagramming them for her (with her approval of course!). Read More

and the girls

and the girls

I never thought that after Rose Cottage last August I’d visit the English countryside again so soon after, and this time with my loved ones. It felt amazing to take this trip with my children and sister, because I did feel lonely the last time. And my people are a lot of fun to be with. We had a lovely, peaceful time in Dedham, although we did miss the boats as the Boathouse Restaurant was closed on Monday (we missed it on Sunday because of all the delays). I also liked the fact that we were staying in a village this time. Rose and its sister cottages at the Grove were more isolated, which lent the whole thing a different type of charm.
