new painting complete } sisters we

sisterswe

sisters we, 2015, acrylic on canvas, 91 x 122cm

I finished this one tonight. I really love it. I guess it comes from a renewed bond I have with my sister. I don’t know, maybe. In this post I’ve also included some Motion Portrait (new crazy app all over Instagram) videos. These things are wild and fun but I predict the app will go from ‘wow’ to ‘oh god not another one’ in a day or two. I already feel like I’ve seen one too many, including my own.

disclaimer: i've always made fun of men who posed like this for their social networking photos. i call it the 'i own' pose. like if he's standing in front of the grand canyon doing this, i imagine he's thinking: i own the grand canyon. or in front of a mcdonald's: i own mcdonald's. this is not what i'm doing here. this here is me caught in a moment of what seems to be a little 'i'm so excited this is over' dance that i did when i was done with my talk

What a weekend! I am so happy it’s over though. I’m sad to have said goodbye to two of my best friends, sarah and laura, and happy to have met so many new ones, but it’s time to move on with my life, which came to a near standstill in preparation for my talk. Luckily I was done with it the first night, so I was able to relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Read More

UK days } part VI

waiting for 2 o'clock at hampstead heath

waiting for 2 o’clock at hampstead heath

This part of my London trip starts October 3rd. On the advice of a friend, I visited Erno Goldfinger’s home on Willow Street in Hampstead. I didn’t take any photos there but I left the house with a sense of having been there before. It evoked feelings of life in Iran in the mid-70s, even though the home predates that era by four decades. Read More

on my way to portobello road to meet my new friend graham day at his antiques stall, this window grabs my attention

This is the fifth part of my last trip to London (I’m posting a week’s worth of pics at a time) spanning September 26th to October 2nd. In terms of reuniting with old friends, meeting new ones and visiting family, this week was my busiest.  Read More

a day in peterborough with david and a whole bunch of land rovers

I’m posting the rest of my September/October ‘UK days’ retrospectively, as my laptop went wonky after only a week in London. I’m back in Kuwait now, recovering from my very long trip, getting back into the hang of things. Read More

thinking about tattoos

where the magic happened

I haven’t really told anyone because a. I was worried it was just a whim and b. I don’t really care for the larger public to know, but I’m seriously considering the art of tattoo as a career. Well, tandem to everything else I’m doing. I know I have my own aesthetic and my own mark. It’s just a matter of learning the skill and practicing the methods by which I can transfer my designs onto skin. Oh, and hours and hours of assistant work. None of it easy, but none as difficult as living in a country where the practice is illegal. So I’ll take it one little step at a time and cross my fingers for opportunity and luck. Read More
