Dar.Nur|Eve & Her Evil Sisters Eve and Eve

eve & her evil sisters eve and eve, 2010, collage on fabric, 50cm x 50cm

This piece was inspired by the original Eve and the apple, and then Snow White and her apple. Consequently I decided to include the evil step-sisters. Well into this piece, I realized that Snow White didn’t have any sisters, step or otherwise. That was Cinderella. So I thought: screw it. We all have our apples and most of us have an evil sister or two to contend with. Read More

coffee

I miss coffee, and I’m not a coffee drinker. I forgot to color in the cookie in the saucer so feel free to color it in with any flavor you like. I am hungry and have no energy this morning. I would gobble a rotten apple core collected from a garbage bin if you offered it to me right now. So it’s best I stay in and draw my lazy pictures.

new painting|still untitled

This is a painting I started a few days ago. I like to show some stages of my unfinished work because I like the way they look at that stage. I am approaching this painting very differently because I’m using many layers of diluted acrylic. Let’s just see where it goes from here.

Homes: Nada Dalloul

my picture is the one in the bottom left hand cubby

Months and months ago, I mailed a letter locally via Kuwait’s post. My friend finally received the letter, a picture I did on May 14th titled Dream & the Nonsense. I love the way Nada has made the colors on her shelf work. Maybe it is merely coincidental that the babushka dolls and green, oval picture reflect the colors of my drawing, but I love the whole look, accident or not. Read More

seven and a half minute face

And this is how I wreck my pens. I drew this yesterday to Primavera by Ludovico Einaudi. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s all new age-y but I was in the mood. I must say that it was crazy trying to get a more or less finished face in seven minutes and a half. This was my second attempt. Cross the bridge for photos. Read More

New Painting|Untitled Yet

To use the term of the decade, this video was a total fail (cross the bridge for the video, I changed things around a bit). But I thought I’d post it anyway because it’s kinda clutzy like me. And it actually has a few informative seconds if you filter out the mistakes, pauses and technical difficulties. Feel free to fast forward through though because it’s very, very long.

As for the painting, it’s the first of a collection I’m painting for my upcoming exhibition at the Tilal Gallery in March. I’m not sure where exactly I’ll be going with the show, but I know I want a collection of 18-22 paintings. I also want there to be a certain thread going through the paintings, possibly a story. It’s going to be fun and exciting. Read More
