girls & the pantiles

One of the things I love about being at my brother and his family’s Surrey home is the immediate burst of inspiration I get. From the ever-changing landscape to the three overgrown greenhouses in the wooded area, my heart always swells with excitement! How could I not integrate my work with the nature and architecture the Pantiles has to offer? It was only natural that I do.  Read More

going

What a perfect little trip I took. All across the board, from finally visiting the Dennis Severs House, to successful shopping sprees, to a dear friend’s wedding. And even the pitfalls were to laugh about almost immediately. But alas with a most wonderful trip, comes a tremendous dip. I was feeling the anti-climax all day yesterday. Today I’m reasonably fine, because there are many things about being here which excite me (like my beloved PGB for example). Plus I can begin to plan my next trip to my sweetheart London. Read More

You may already know this about me but I get distracted easily. I was supposed to work on a commissioned painting today but ended up doing this…

Music is The Answer by UNKLE.

I’ll go work on that painting now.

my new schoolbook from manifesto 13

This post is not about Manifesto 13. It’s about this red and black schoolbook that Dalal Al-Nafisi (founder of Manifesto 13) gave me when I visited the art center with Zainab this morning. I do want to go back and do some proper snooping around (unfortunately I’d forgotten my phone this morning. I couldn’t take photos so borrowed Z’s). Hopefully soon I’ll have a proper M13 post.

I’ve also included some photos from a trip Z and I took to the ‘Wig Mall’ (a shopping center with every hair-related product you can think of) just because of how bizarre it was.

Check out what’s happening at Manifesto 13 here.

conversation around a napkin

.

.

As I was cleaning this morning I was listening to music from my iTunes library. After Alexi Murdoch’s Song For You ended, I heard my voice. I walked up to my computer to see what it was but the recording was untitled. Then I heard someone else’s voice: Simon’s. I had forgotten about these 14 minutes of our time spent together. I wasn’t in the habit of recording our conversations, but at the time I was working on an audio project. I remember us deciding to just record ourselves casually conversing as we so often did. After hearing the recording I was curious about the napkin. I sort of had an idea which one it was. I scrolled down my category list and there it was: one item listed under…Napkin.

to revisit an old companion

It’s not that old, but it’s acquired that ancient crinkle: my NYT Sunday Crossword Puzzle book from 2008. I’ve decided to solve the unfinished puzzles and use it simultaneously as a sketchbook. It works for me and I hope it works for you too. Read More

Yogi master guru wallah (just don’t know what to call him!) Chris Johns has come and gone. I love receiving friends in Kuwait. They tend to land like hurricanes and leave a trail of good memories in their wake. It’s so bittersweet, and I always look forward to more [desirable] visitors. Because I was busy enjoying my time with Chris and Reem, I neglected my blog and am so behind. Once you go through the photos you’ll understand why. Read More

meet amalie. and agnes

I named this woman Amalie after a friend’s daughter. I imagine the original Amalie will grow up to be this. As for Agnes, that was a friend’s suggestion for the subject of this portrait. But I’d already chosen Amalie, so I decided to introduce another subject. Woof woof!
