hour drawing } third hour

I’ve decided that I want this picture to be done for Halloween. It’s one of the saddest times of year for me, in the shallowest way possible; Halloween being my favorite occasion without a place to go and people who really appreciate it.

I’m a little disappointed at not finishing the dress. I did try to sketch as fast as I could. It’ll have to be done in the next one-hour session.

I’ve been meaning to start a new ‘Storybook’ drawing for a while now. This time I set a rule for myself: one hour a day. I was five minutes shy of an hour because the ink in my pen so inconveniently ran out. I’ll be better prepared tomorrow. I hope you enjoy watching this story […]

Finishing my Ramadan drawing, which I named A Dozen & One Nights, left a nudging emptiness inside me. I needed some sort of a place to go to in order to lose myself again. So I started this picture last night and finished it today. Not the same. But I think it served as a […]
ramadan drawing|the end

Eid’s got to come tomorrow now. I just spent the last three or four hours putting what I thought were the final touches to this drawing. Instead, it felt like I was creating a whole new drawing. I guess it’s a little like Ramadan itself. We go through it more or less patiently. And then […]

I’ve upped my speed with this drawing. I hadn’t realized how near we are to the end of ramadan and I’m kinda panicking. I’m going to miss it once I’m done. Which should be tomorrow. Please click here for a step by step slideshow of this drawing.

There’s no telling what happens next. I’m always excited to find out myself. There’s good news about my scanner. It’s out for delivery, so hopefully the images will be extra crispy next time I post the latest phase. To see this drawing as it unfolds, please click here.

I’m not a drama queen, but yesterday I almost lost this drawing forever. The day before, I had spent the night at my parents’ home. I had taken this drawing, which I slot in my sketchbook for protection, in case I felt like working on it. Yesterday morning I picked up the sketchbook and two […]

I love to get people involved in drawing, and I’m always interested in the infinite ways a line can be enhanced or re-interpreted. So I started a drawing and would like to invite you to finish it. All you need is a printer, scanner and the tools to make it yours. When you’re done, please […]

I have finally put in an order for an A3 scanner. I’m feeling a little joyous about it, but once I receive it I’ll be very, very joyous. This scanner will change my life!
is it important for an artist to know how to draw?
Posted on July 24, 2011 5 Comments
Yes. I think it is. But sometimes I think maybe it’s not so important. In an age where artistic power is handed to us by the likes of Photoshop, Painter and Illustrator, I think a mind-blowingly good idea, composition and use of color may just compensate for the fact that someone who calls themselves an […]
painting on a sad, rainy day

I don’t know if it’s the rain (I do cherish this kind of weather, but perhaps not for too long), or if I miss my children, or I have the misfortune of dealing daily with unprofessional, inconsiderate fuckers, but I’ve been pretty maudlin all day. I don’t think it’s the rain. And at the […]

Because I’m always showing videos and slideshows of my works in progress, I thought it would be a good idea to turn the tables and photograph others and their creative processes. So I set up a little work station and let people do their thing. Artists include Yasmeen Dimashkie, Yousef Abu-Ghazaleh, Khaled Abu-Ghazaleh, Zainab Abu-Ghazaleh, […]
