new series|new painting|nothing titled or thought through enough yet

After finishing Stories of Eves, I felt an overwhelming sense of aimlessness. There was, however, still the exhibition to look forward to. But after the opening, while shuffling my children, the gallery and nursing what felt like a stomach bug, I thought of something a visitor to my show suggested: my girls dancing. I didn’t […]
painting on a sad, rainy day

I don’t know if it’s the rain (I do cherish this kind of weather, but perhaps not for too long), or if I miss my children, or I have the misfortune of dealing daily with unprofessional, inconsiderate fuckers, but I’ve been pretty maudlin all day. I don’t think it’s the rain. And at the […]
eve passes a note

I think she’s finished. I put a note in her hand because her expression and intent gaze reminded me of how as children, in class, we would focus on the teacher’s face while subtly flicking the note to its intended recipient.

As a child, I always played hide-and-go-seek with a little trepidation and absolutely no sense of fun and game. How could anyone enjoy a game where you had to hide in a lonely, isolated place while someone sought you out? It’s far from pleasant. As for the seeker, how terrifying and just as existentially creepy. […]
In My Studio this Morning|Two New Paintings, Two I’m Working on & One About to be Done

I love Sunday mornings; just coming out of the weekend, everyone’s either at work or the malls, and I’m here in my space, enjoying some time to myself. And some time with my girls.
New Painting|Six Eves Play Hide-and-Go-Seek

I started this painting yesterday morning. I decided to make it a landscape format rather than portrait because the canvas is too tall for my easel. That was the easy step. I then thought: hmm, why don’t I actually paint a landscape. The only time I’d ever painted a landscape from life was in Madrid, […]

This painting is a little jarring on the eyes, but sometimes I feel I have to step out of my comfort zone a little. I felt that the lines emanating from behind her, although at first a playful way to cover my canvas, became very necessary as they complemented her unsettling gaze. To quote just […]
Gallery Tilal|Stories of Eves|Eve Plays Tek Too*

*Tek Too is the Kuwaiti pronunciation of ‘take two’. I would never dream of pronouncing it otherwise. It’s a card game my family is very keen on playing. Everyone plays, all ages and as many people as willing to play. It can be quite competitive and has on one or two occasions nearly caused […]
Struggle in the Studio|Ghadah Vs. Eve

Two of the three paintings I’m currently working on are giving me hell. If I could, I’d punch them both and get it over with. I’m struggling to get them out of the rut they’re in. But I know we’ll all pull through. Trust and patience.

The title of this painting changed from A Bowlful of Eves to A Cupful of Eves. These things happen sometimes.
eve & me

My brother, Tareq, was over for lunch this afternoon. After we ate I saw him clicking away at his phone. Then he asked me, “Ghadah, do you have a painting of Eve at her computer?” and I said yes. Then he showed me a photo he had taken of me a couple of months […]
