When I traveled to London last April I decided to keep my watercolor sketchbook and paints behind. That was a mistake, because as soon as I had a bit of time alone in my hotel room I got the urge to paint. So I think by now you can guess the rest: trip to Green […]

Three D’s carried over from December 2015 to January 2016: depression, defeat and disease. Today, the fourth D: death. I’m envisioning a rosier prognosis for the rest of this year. Hoping, really. Fingers crossed. But for now, four faces to tide us all over. RIP, David Jones. And thanks for the songs you left behind. Here’s Velvet Goldmine:

I miss my son Khaled so much. And this has nothing to do with the painting. Or maybe it does.

It’s Friday. I was inspired. And then baby showed up. I got him into a black turtle neck and we started our little shoot. He was a natural. In fact, he was so ‘Come on, Vogue’ I could hardly keep a straight face. The guy’s a pro, just like his Aunty G.

Since Beirut I’ve been dying to paint. But it didn’t work out the way I pictured it would be, subject- and technique-wise. Let’s see where it goes.

Last May or June I was commissioned by my brother to paint a portrait of Paul Newman. His only conditions were that he wanted the painting to be large and that Paul Newman was wearing his Rolex Daytona watch. So in effect, this is a double portrait. Anyway, Paul wasn’t that big of a challenge. The watch […]

I named this woman Amalie after a friend’s daughter. I imagine the original Amalie will grow up to be this. As for Agnes, that was a friend’s suggestion for the subject of this portrait. But I’d already chosen Amalie, so I decided to introduce another subject. Woof woof!

new painting on a friday morning

Sometimes I just want to paint. It was one of those days (yesterday) that I actually went through my storeroom rummaging for stretched canvases. I found this one. There was a painting of an apple on it, which wasn’t pretty enough to render it worthy of not being painted over. This morning I finished the painting. I’m not completely ecstatic […]
